Mix that Colour!

Hey everyone, I'd just like to add that this activity I found is totally awesome. I suggest you check it out and consider using it in your classroom if ever possible.

· Compare and contrast colour, using terms such as lighter than, darker than, more blue, brighter than.

· Predict and describe changes in colour that result from the mixing of primary colours and from mixing a primary color with black or with white.

ICT GLO: C6 Students will use technology to investigate and/or solve problems.

ICT SLO: Students will

· 2.7 Generate alternative solutions to problems using technology to facilitate the process.

· 2.1 Select and use technology to assist in problem solving

Description of activity: Students learn how different colours interact to form new colours by playing an interactive game online. Students are given a “target” colour which they must match using the colours given.

Rationale: In using this program (game) students get a chance to mix colours in a way that would not be practical using paints or pencil crayons. The teacher can let the kids try to match the target colour given by the game itself or he/she can just use the “palette” to teach his/her own desired colour combinations. For instance if the teacher wants to show how the colour white affects other colours he/she would select a colour then press the white button to see its effects. If the teacher only wants to use primary colours then he/she can choose to disregard the rest of the colours. I would recommend such a teacher guided lesson first and then letting kids have fun on their own with the game.

My name is Philip Klipper and I'm an Education student at University of Lethbridge. I was born and raised in Red Deer and came to Lethbridge after doing a year and a half of studies at Red Deer College. I've taken classes in subjects ranging from Zoology to Philosophy, Biology to Psychology, Physical Education to Geography. My major is a combined one, combining English, History and Music. Before attending post-secondary school I spent 6 months backpacking throughout South and Central America. Once I graduate I look forward to returning to a life on the road and teaching abroad.
